How it began…
Welcome to Bud Bud’s! We are an online hobby shop specializing in vintage collectibles! Sports Cards, Non-Sports Cards, Comics, your favourite Action Figures from the 80’s and 90’s plus tons of other cool stuff, but more on that in a moment…
I remember the Golden era of Sports Cards fondly. It was the late 80s/early 90s, I was a 15-year-old kid, there was a Sports Card Shop in every town and a trade show every week. If you collected cards when Upper Deck Baseball first hit the shelves, you know what I’m talking about!
But the story starts back even before that…
I was a kid back in the early 80’s when I first collected Baseball and Hockey sticker books. Then I recall somewhere around 82-83 buying packs of cards from the corner store. I distinctively remember collecting 83 O-Pee-Chee Baseball.
Of course like a lot of kids who grew up in the 80’s, Star Wars, G.I. Joe, He-Man Transformers, or Wrestling Figures was the good stuff I was hoping to get for my birthday or Christmas.
A couple years later around 86-87 I got big into collecting and selling Baseball and Hockey Cards, just as the boom of sports cards was starting to take momentum. It was really something crazy to live through and be part of!
My Dad and I share our enthusiasm for the hobby. He’s a lifelong hobby guy, still actively buys and sells on eBay all the time, all things hobby, Sports Cards, Non-Sports Cards, Comics, Coins, Stamps, you name it. He’s got close to 3,000 reviews and 100% positive feedback. It’s a hobby that he loves, and it keeps him busy in his retirement.
Dad was there when I got started collecting and was right along side me setting up tables together at all the card shows in the late 80’s. Definitely some of the best times growing up!
One of the best memories growing up was a family road trip to Boston in the summer of 1990. This trip was a big deal for our family to begin with. Both our parents worked hard to make sure my sister and I had everything we needed, but my mother told me years later that she worked a lot of overtime leading up to that trip to be able to put it together. Thanks Mom!
As you might know 1990 was pretty much the peak of the sports card hobby boom! We drove from NL Canada to Boston and Dad and I made sure to hit every card store along the way! The family vacation turned into an Atlantic Coast Hobby Shop summer tour! We had my Mother and Sister drove nuts!
Speaking of dads, I am one myself. It’s the thing I am most proud of. As I write this, my little girl just turned 6 and my boy is almost 4. Future collectors! They inspire me.
I guess you could say it’s come full circle. I’ve gotten back into collecting since my kids have been born and the idea for Bud Bud’s Collectibles grew from that.
To say I’m nostalgic about Hobby and Sports Card shops would be an understatement. I have a genuine passion for the hobby and collecting. When I say we strive to treat customers like family we mean it.
Even though Bud Bud’s is starting from humble beginnings, we are determined to make it something great!
